Guide
How to calculate sod for your yard
Sod is harvested in rectangular rolls (typically 2 ft × 5 ft = 10 sq ft) and stacked onto pallets of 400 to 500 sq ft. Ordering the correct quantity ensures your pallet delivery is laid on the same day before grass roots dry out.
Calculate Net Square Footage
Measure the yard length and width. Subtract non-lawn areas such as sheds, patios, and flowerbeds.
Add 5% to 10% Waste
Curved landscape borders require angled trimming cuts, creating scrap pieces.
Divide into Rolls and Pallets
Divide total square feet by 10 for rolls, or by 450 for pallets. Round up to the nearest whole roll or half pallet.
