Guide
How to calculate wallpaper rolls
Wallpaper in North America is priced by the single roll but almost always packaged and sold in continuous double rolls covering 56 to 60 square feet. Large pattern repeats require extra matching waste.
Measure Width and Height
Measure total wall perimeter and ceiling height. For an accent wall, measure just that one wall's width.
Factor in Pattern Repeat
Add 15% to 25% waste for large drop-match floral or geometric prints where patterns must align horizontally.
Divide by Roll Usable Area
Divide total area by 56 sq ft (for double rolls) and round up to the next full roll.

Answers & FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a single roll and a double roll?▼
A single roll covers approximately 28 square feet, while a double roll covers 56 to 60 square feet. Most wallpaper is sold in double rolls to reduce scrap seams.
Do I deduct windows and doors for wallpaper?▼
Professional paperhangers recommend NOT deducting standard doors and windows because pattern repeats require full vertical runs from ceiling to baseboard regardless.
